People of Determination

Federal Law No. 29 of 2006 Concerning the Rights of People with Disabilities, as amended with federal law No. 14 of 2009, (the law) protects the rights of people of determination and guarantees them the right to live with dignity.

The law defines a person with special needs as someone suffering from a temporary or permanent, full or partial deficiency or infirmity in their physical, sensory, mental, communication, educational or psychological abilities to an extent that limits their possibility of performing the ordinary requirements as compared to people without special needs.

Disclosure

People of Determination can seek their higher education at CU Ajman as long as they are capable.
Students are required to mention their disability at the time of enrollment or to the Student Affairs Department afterwards. After the student counselor interviews the student, an official document describing the disability will be issued.
By disclosing your disability, the university is better prepared to assist and provide access to the services available for Students of Determination.

Many individuals with disabilities are highly independent and can accomplish tasks on their own.

If you think someone may need assistance, it’s polite to ask first. Don’t just jump in and help without their consent.

Listen Actively:
Listen to the needs and preferences of individuals with disabilities. They are the best source of information regarding their specific requirements.

Avoid Staring or Making Inappropriate Comments: Staring or making insensitive comments can be hurtful.

Treat individuals with disabilities as you would anyone else and respect their privacy.

Support Inclusion: Encourage inclusive practices in your college, community, and social circles. Everyone benefits from a more inclusive and diverse society.

Remember that each person’s experience and needs are unique, so it’s essential to approach each individual with an open mind and willingness to accommodate their specific requirements.
